The members of the Laboratory have implemented since the early 1990s many national and international research programs that fall into one of its thematic areas:
Intelligent Materials and Systems Technologies (Smart & Micro Grids),
Renewable Energy Sources (Solar, Wind, Wave, etc.),
Application of RES in Smart Grids,
Optimal integration of RES and distributed generation stations in Smart Grids
Power Converters with emphasis on the optimal integration of RES, electric cars and other sources and loads in smart grids and production processes,
Analysis of time series of meteorological data and production data of RES systems,
Quality of Electricity Supplied related to both RES and in general with the aim of optimizing the operation of systems and Energy Saving.
Intelligent e-learning / education systems, utilizing the same methods and approaches as above,
Design and Implementation of telemetry systems based on Embedded Systems and IoT technologies for optimization of RES energy production,
preventive maintenance of RES systems and building automation in order to save energy,
Design and Implementation of telemetry systems for Smart Grids using smart meters based on Integrated Systems, wireless communication technologies
and wireless sensor networks and development of implementation techniques of smart contracts and smart billing / micropayments based on Blockchain
technologies to enhance distributed energy production from Renewable Sources and Electric Cars V2G technology,
Design and Implementation of street lighting control systems based on IoT technologies and Integrated systems aimed at energy saving as well as BMS
applications for energy saving in buildings and the implementation of Virtual Power Plants.
At the same time, the members of the Laboratory have participated - as faculty members of the Departments of Electrical, Electronics, Automation and Textiles (1986-2018) of the Piraeus University of Applied Sciences (University of West Attica) (former TEI of Piraeus) and the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of the University of West Attica - in the implementation of the following indicative programs: Participations in funded research projects / development projects / service projects (2015-2023)
